Book Club Discussion! (Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer)
Join us for the first Bike Kitchen Book Club Discussion!
At the Bike Kitchen - in the student room behind the shop! Please enter through the regular shop entrance.
6.30-8pm :)
Once a month, we'll gather to chat about a selected book and its themes together. Everyone is welcome!
After a brief introduction to the main themes of the book, we will read selected excerpts and discuss them together. While it is helpful to have read the book beforehand it is not required!
Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer: Kimmerer uses sweetgrass as both an example and a metaphor to illustrate the reciprocal relationship between Indigenous peoples and the land. She challenges readers to rethink their assumptions about nature and to embrace a way of living that respects the Earth's generosity. Practices such as cycling to reduce emissions, recycling, and consuming more thoughtfully become part of a broader philosophy of living in harmony with the natural world rather than simply taking from it.
You can find a copy of this book at UBC Library or VPL. If you're having trouble finding it, feel free to reach out to us at programs@thebikekitchen.ca, we'd be happy to help!!
